Order an ImageTacoma-born author Frank Patrick Herbert, Jr. (1920-1986) was an American science fiction writer best known for the novel "Dune" and its five sequels. Though he became famous for science fiction, he was also a newspaper journalist, photographer, short story writer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and university lecturer. At the time this image was taken, Herbert was a reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, where he worked from 1969 to 1972.
