Rev. Dr. Samuel Berry McKinney (1926-2018), was a minister, author, and leading civil rights advocate in Seattle, Washington. Rev. McKinney and his wife Louise Jones McKinney (1930-2012) came to Seattle in 1958, where Louise worked in education as a teacher, principal, and eventually Director of Academic Achievement for Seattle Public Schools. Rev. McKinney served as pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church, one of the largest and oldest Black churches in the Pacific Northwest, from 1958 to 1998 and again from 2005 to 2008.
