Fashion stylist Helen Igoe (1870-1962) came to Seattle in 1907 to work as a buyer for a department store, and by 1910 had opened her own high fashion store, Helen Igoe Shop for Women. A frequent traveler to New York and Paris, Igoe brought Parisian style to Seattle in the early decades of the 20th century. Upon her retirement in 1950, she sold her shop at 1331 Fifth Avenue in downtown Seattle to friend and employee John Doyle Bishop (1913-1980), who renamed it after himself.
In the center of this image Helen Igoe poses with Seattle Art Museum Educational Director Edith Thackwell Young (1886-1972), left, and New York fashion designer Louise Barnes Gallagher (1892-1972). Gallager's designs were sold at Igoe’s shop and this photograph may have been taken during a promotion of her fashions in Seattle.
