Order an ImageIn about 1913, people traveling between Seattle and Bothell took the Bothell stage, an early type of bus. At that time, there were two ways to drive a vehicle to Bothell from Seattle. One route followed the Pacific Highway through Kenmore. The preferred route involved driving to Madison Park, catching the Kirkland ferry, and driving from Kirkland to Bothell.
In this photo, taken around 1913, passengers wait on the Bothell stage outside Seattle's Bon Marche department store. The seats were open to the weather, but the stage had flaps which could be rolled down in case of rain.
