Order an Image
The development of Seattle's Mount Baker area began in 1909. This photo was taken in 1912, looking northeast across Rainier Avenue towards the new Franklin High School, in the curve of Mount Baker Boulevard. Malmo's Nursery can be seen between the school and Rainier Avenue. It sold trees and plants for landscaping. The logged-over land was soon filled with houses and businesses.
