Damage from Belltown fire, Seattle, June 11, 1910
Order an ImageOn June 10, 1910, a fire spread along the waterfront side of Belltown and consumed 13 square blocks of industrial and commercial buildings. Among the heaviest losses were the buildings of Galbraith, Bacon & Co, (where the fire reportedly originated), Puget Sound Sheet Metal Works, and the Glenorchy Hotel on Wall Street. A headline in The Seattle Daily Times of June 11 stated, "Forty-Mile Gale Spreads Flames Over Many Blocks and Then Downpour of Rain Helps to Check the Fires."
