St. Joseph's Church, circa 1912
Order an ImageSt. Joseph's Church began as a Jesuit mission in 1904. By 1907, the Seattle church had completed its new building on 18th Avenue North and East Aloha Street. Many Roman Catholics lived in this area of Capitol Hill, attended St. Joseph's, and sent their daughters to Holy Names Academy. By the 1930s, the congregation had outgrown the building and replaced it with a large, modern church at the same location.
