During the early 1900s, the school population of Ballard grew rapidly and many buildings were placed into temporary service as classrooms. A few small portable buildings known as Bay View School transformed into the substantial brick building shown in this photo. Named Webster shortly after it opened in 1908, the school had a steady enrollment of between 400 and 500 students for many years, until it closed in 1979. From 1980 to 2018 it was the home of the Nordic Heritage Museum, and after a modernization campaign returned to Seattle Putlic Schools as Licton Springs K-8 in 2021.
