Order an ImageSeattle annexed the city of Ballard in 1907. The Seattle school district built Whittier School in Ballard's Crown Hill neighborhood the following year. This new brick building replaced several smaller wooden schools.
This photo, probably taken in 1908, shows Whittier School's first building when it was almost completed. The building was located on Thirteenth Avenue NW in Crown Hill, and was torn down in 1997. A new Whittier building on the same site opened in 1999.
