Order an Image
In the early 1900s, designs for Seattle's Volunteer Park included two playground areas for children. In this photo, 18 girls, one boy, and a woman are seated on a teeter-totter at the park. The girls are wearing typical outdoor play clothing of the period--skirts, long stockings, and leather shoes. The photo was published with the caption, "The joy of youngsters in the open air is surely something good to see."
