West Queen Anne School, 1905

Order an Image
In 1895, the West Queen Anne School replaced the first school in the Queen Anne neighborhood. The new brick building had eight classrooms. It was expanded in 1899 and 1901 as the neighborhood grew. West Queen Anne School had Seattle's first woman principal, Adelaide Pollock, who served from 1900-1918. The school building still stands on Queen Anne Hill and is now an apartment building.

This photo shows West Queen Anne School in 1905, on Galer Street, near Fifth Avenue West.
