Chemistry class in the basement of Denny Hall, circa 1905

Order an Image
Denny Hall was the first permanent structure built at the University of Washington's current location. At first, all of the university's activities took place in this single building.

In this photo, taken around 1905, men and women students do experiments and take notes at the laboratory benches. The sign near the window advertises horehound drops, a sore throat remedy.
