Women's dorm room at the University of Washington, circa 1905

Order an Image
In the early 1900s, the women students at the University of Washington lived in Pierrepont Hall. In 1904 and 1905, they invited students and faculty to tour their dormitory rooms. An article in the student newspaper exclaimed, "The daintily decorated rooms of the young ladies excited the admiration of all who beheld them."

This 1905 photo shows a women's dormitory room at the University of Washington. Photographs and fashion illustrations hang from a net on the wall. Throw pillows and striped blankets cover the beds. Corner shelving holds cups, saucers, and a chafing dish for heating food.
