Order an ImageBallard's first public library was once only a reading room on Ballard Avenue. A new, brick library building was built on Market Street with money from the community and the Carnegie Foundation. The Carnegie Free Public Library building housed both library services and a large auditorium. It was the first branch library in Seattle to have a children's librarian.
This photo shows the Ballard Library as it looked in 1911. The building is no longer a library. It is now used for business purposes.
