Order an Image
Seattle's public schools originally had no athletic programs. In 1904, a group of private citizens began sponsoring school clubs for track and other sports. By 1912, Lowell School had programs in track, football, and baseball.

In this 1912 photo, a pole vaulter from Lowell School poses for the photographer. At that time, only men competed in track and field meets.
