Swimmers at Alki Beach, Seattle, 1912
Order an ImageIn July 1905, the West Seattle newspaper reported that the Alki natatorium was a wonderful success in its first year of operation. The "bathing tank"--130 feet long, 53 feet wide and up to 9 feet deep--was filled directly from Puget Sound daily. The adjacent pavilion hosted social dances on Saturday evenings.
