Ballard developed as a community of people working in the fishing, boat-building, and lumber mill industries. Starting in 1916, their older children attended the red brick Ballard High School. The school building was expanded in 1925, and other additions were made over the years. The structure was demolished in the summer if 1997 due to asbestos contamination and was replaced with the current facility at 1418 NW 65th St. This picture shows what Ballard High School looked like in April 1930.
