The Roman Catholic Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart ran Columbus Hospital on Seattle's First Hill, at Tenth Avenue and Madison Street. The hospital was opened as the Columbus Sanatorium in 1916 by Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. Columbus Hospital became St. Francis X. Cabrini Hospital in the late 1950s and closed in 1990. Until the late 1960s, the sisters ran a nursing school as part of the hospital program.
