Regraded land and new streets in the Denny Hill area, circa 1930
Order an ImageDuring the second Denny Hill regrading project, the city paid for the removal of dirt from street areas and other public property. Private landowners paid for the lowering of their property. In places, the land was lowered by 89 feet.
This photo is half of a panoramic view to the north from the downtown area, taken around 1929. It shows newly-regraded open land and the beginning of 8th Avenue which will extend north towards Queen Anne Hill.
