The New Orpheum Theatre, 1928
Order an ImageSeattle's New Orpheum Theatre opened in 1927. It was one of the largest and most elegant members of the Orpheum Circuit, a nationwide chain of "photo play" and vaudeville theaters. The August 1927 program included music on the Wurlitzer organ, a feature movie (Rod LaRocque in "The Fighting Eagle"), a newsreel, and a song and dance revue ("Ned Wayburn's Buds of 1927").
This photo, taken in 1928, shows the New Orpheum Theatre at Westlake and Stewart Avenues. It was torn down in 1967 to make room for the Westin Hotel.
