Order an ImageA group of auto racing enthusiasts formed the Northwest Auto Track Association in 1906 and held regular auto races in Tacoma. By the 1920s, both cars and racing were even more popular. Ken Schoenfeld, whose family ran the Standard Furniture Company, seems to have been an avid auto racing promoter.
In this photo, taken around 1928, he poses with two racing cars and their drivers on 5th Avenue, with Denny Hill in the background. Driver Mario Bianchi sits at the wheel of car number 7, at left.
