J.J. Smith School, Enumclaw, circa 1911
Order an ImageThe original J. J. Smith School, named after the highly regarded Enumclaw doctor and state senator, was built in 1910. The all-grades school was a three-story brick building with nineteen classrooms and an auditorium. The school was torn down in 1957 and replaced with a second J. J. Smith School, a one-level elementary.
This photo shows the first J.J. Smith School. The foreground street leading to the front of the school is Myrtle Avenue, which crosses Fell Street, running parallel to the front of the school.
