Order an ImageThe University of Washington played its first-ever football game on Thanksgiving Day, 1889, at the Jefferson Street Park, just east of downtown. In the next decade the university moved to its present site five miles north of downtown, in a wooded area bordering Lake Washington. Football games were played at old Denny Field on the northwest corner of the campus near 45th Street.
