Issaquah School, Issaquah, circa 1925
Order an ImageThe earliest school classes in Issaquah, Washington, were held in various homes and barns. As the population grew, residents of the area built a series of wooden schoolhouses. In 1915, after voters approved a $30,000 bond issue, the school district opened a three-story brick school building to serve the towns of Pickering and Issaquah.
This photo, probably taken in the 1920s, shows the Issaquah School. The earlier wooden schoolhouse stands to the left, behind the new brick building. In the mid-1920s, both buildings were still in use and housed all of the students from six area towns.
