Kenworth Truck Company, now a subsidiary of Paccar, has been manufacturing medium and heavy-duty trucks near Seattle since 1916. The company also made fire trucks, and transit and school buses. In 1937 and 1938 Kenworth built five Kenworth Touring Motor Coaches. As of 2009, three of those are still in existence -- one in Sitka, Alaska; one in Montana; and another which remained in Washington State.
This image is of the coach that remained in Washington State, taken likely shortly after its manufacture. The coach was used from 1937-1962 by the Rainier National Park Company to allow visitors to tour the park in "auto stages" on the newly developed scenic roads. A private collector purchased the coach in 1985, and then donated it to the Mount Rainier National Park in 2009.
