Edwin J. "Doc" Brown (1864-1941) was a two-term mayor of Seattle, elected in May 1922 and again in 1924. He graduated from Kansas City School of Law in 1899, and worked as a dentist, thus earning the nickname "Doc" Brown. As a politician during prohibition, Brown personally did not drink alcohol, but supported the public's right to drink.
In late 1925, Mayor Brown twice appeared as a religious man at churches. On November 22 he appeared in the role of preacher at the First Baptist Church in Seattle, and on December 13, he appeared as the teacher of a Sunday School class at Central Christian Church of Spokane, to speak on "Christianity and Politics." This photograph was probably taken when Brown spoke from the pulpit at First Baptist Church.
