On May 10, 1918, 62 men, conscripted from Seattle and King County through the new Selective Service system, paraded through downtown Seattle streets before entraining for Vancouver Barracks, where they would join the U.S. Army. The men assembled at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Club, where they received packages of food, tobacco, and other useful items, then marched to King Street Station, led by the Seattle Police Band and a platoon of 100 uniformed officers, and cheered on by the crowd.
This photo shows the parade of drafted men marching along a downtown street. Two carry signs which read "Every 100 men from Seattle means 30,000 men from U.S." and "Telegram to Daddy Woodrow - Tell Gen Foch by gosh we are coming by MILLIONS, Uncle Sam."
