West Seattle Grammar and High School, circa 1917

For many years, West Seattle children went to school in Seattle. When a small school was finally built in West Seattle, the population outgrew it in a few years. In 1893, a large new school building opened at California Avenue and Lander Street. Both elementary and high school grades were taught in the building.

This photo shows the West Seattle Grammar and High School in about 1917.
