West Seattle Grammar and High School, circa 1917
Order an ImageFor many years, West Seattle children went to school in Seattle. When a small school was finally built in West Seattle, the population outgrew it in a few years. In 1893, a large new school building opened at California Avenue and Lander Street. Both elementary and high school grades were taught in the building.
