Madrona School, 1917

Order an Image
Madrona School, originally called Randell School, opened around 1890 in a converted barn. A new Madrona School building was dedicated in the fall of 1917. It had eight classrooms, a home economics room, a shop, an auditorium, a lunchroom, and a kitchen. About 450 students had attended the school the year before.

This photo shows Madrona School at about the time it opened. The school grounds are still located on 33rd Avenue in Seattle's Madrona neighborhood.
