Order an ImageIn this photo, a woman sits on a sloping lawn in front of a house, appearing to hand sew along the bottom of a large American flag. She works on a small section held in her lap, with the rest of the flag spread out of the grass. The flag shown here has 48 stars, the design used from 1912 to 1959. The photo was taken by the Seattle commercial photography firm of Webster & Stevens, probably outside a Seattle residence.
