Times Square Building under construction, August 21, 1916

Order an Image
Alden Blethen, owner of the Seattle Times, broke ground for the Times Square Building in 1914. Construction began in 1915, right after Blethen's death, and the building was dedicated in his memory. The newspaper's printing presses were moved in September 1916, and the building opened for business.

This photo shows the west end of the Times Square Building in August 1916, as the building neared completion.
