Seattle's Hotel Calhoun, located at the intersection of Second Avenue and Virginia Street, was designed by architect William P. White. It was built in 1910 during an apartment building boom in the area newly leveled by the Denny Regrade, in what is now the Belltown neighborhood.
This image was taken shortly before the hotel opened, and open lots can clearly be seen surrounding the building. Over the years the Calhoun served as a hotel and as apartments. It was designated a city landmark in 2011, and as of 2018, it continues to operate as the Kimpton Palladian Hotel.
