Pidduck-Ross Co. grocery sold "high priced groceries and table delicacies" at 720 Second Avenue. The grocery opened in 1901 as Pidduck, Ross & Mehlhorn by George A. Pidduck, John T. Ross, and August F. Mehlhorn (Mehlhorn left the company in the first year). In just a few years, Pidduck-Ross Co. was declared bankrupt in April of 1905, after having been robbed as part of a larger burglary of businesses along First and Second Avenue three months earlier.
This receipt lists green onions, green sugar, domestic macaroni, creamy cheese, bulk coconut, and Italian prunes for Austin E. Griffiths (1864-1952). Griffiths was a lawyer, King County Superior Court Judge, Seattle City Councilman, and Chief of Police. The front of the printed receipt also has an illustration for Queen Anne Flour from Hammond Milling Co., Seattle. The back includes a detailed "reminder grocery list" of the products at the grocer, including "a full line of Ralston Health Foods."
