The Ladies Musical Club, Seattle’s oldest musical organization, was founded in 1891 by 22 women who were classically trained musicians. Over the years, in addition to holding meetings for members, the group has brought well-known musicians to Seattle for public concerts.
On March 24, 1941, the group celebrated its 50th anniversary at the DAR Rainier Chapter house on Capitol Hill. The concert program and tea closely duplicated the original meeting of the group. The gathering honored four charter members, who were given yellow-rosebud corsages and scroll facsimiles of the original program. Standing (left to right) are Mrs. J.B. Eagleson, Clara J. (Mrs. Charles) Patterson, Mattie B. (Mrs. W.E.) Nichols, and (seated) Nellie Beach. The portrait was taken by Seattle photographer Dolph H. Zubick.
Handwritten on verso of mount is a list of names of those who were present at the home of Mrs. George Bacon for the founding meeting in March 1891.
