Meadow Creek, Washington, circa 1917
Order an ImageThe Keechelus Dam, at the south end of Lake Keechelus, was completed in 1917. For several summers, dam construction workers lived at a camp called Meadow Creek. The temporary town had a post office, school, store, YMCA, and several other businesses. Almost everyone left during the winter, except for about 25 families who stayed on to take care of the camp.
This photographic postcard, made sometime around 1917, shows Meadow Creek, the Keechelus Dam construction camp in Kittitas County, Washington. Some 1,500 to 1,800 people, including workers and their families, lived at the camp during the summer construction season.
