Begun in December 1922, The Guide (or the Official Weekly Guide to Seattle & Seattle Amusement Guide) was a weekly publication for visitors to Seattle and offered for free through authorized dealers or at a subscription of $3 per year. Joseph Dana Roberts (1907-1952) is listed as the editor and publisher, with Tom Renton as the staff artist, operating out of 1118 Northern Life Tower in downtown Seattle.

The issue pictured here, the 625th, is dated December 29, 1934, and features Nathan Eckstein (1873-1945) as "Citizen of the Year." The issue includes a summary of the previous week's events, places of interest, complete guide to street cars, a salute to Indianapolis (different cities were featured each week), and a variety of advertisements for local sites, transportation, businesses, and theaters. The issue also contains an editorial column called "The Sauntering Seattleite," which advocates for a ban on interracial marriage, a reaction to the apparent increase in white women in the city marrying Filipino men.
