The Century 21 Exposition, Seattle's World's Fair, ran from April 21 to October 21, 1962. The fair promoted the worlds of space, science, and the future. The cover of this sheet music shows a woman, a man, and a little girl walking excitedly through the fairgrounds below the Space Needle. The official logo of the fair is printed below the title.
"See You in Seattle (at the Big World's Fair)" was written for and copyrighted by The Washington State Department of Commerce and Economic Development, Olympia, Washington. The words and music were written by Seattle musicians Tubby Clark and Ben Harkins, and Virginia Burnside, an employee of the advertising agency retained by the state for fair publicity. It was sold as sheet music and used in a promotional film. The song, which appears to be an official theme song for the fair and uses the official logo, raised controversy with Century 21 officials, because they had not licensed these uses. Fair officials maintained the fair had no official theme song.
