This image shows the intersection of Pine Street and 4th Avenue, looking south along Fourth. Through the 1960s and 70s, proposals were put forward to convert this area into an urban park with retail and commercial spaces, but lawsuits and controversies delayed any work until 1986. The new Westlake Center opened on October 20, 1988, including an indoor mall, an office tower, and a one acre paved park called Westlake Park. Since then, Westlake Park has served as a popular gathering place and event venue in downtown Seattle.

Businesses visible at Pine and Fourth in this 1967 photo include The Owl Drug Co., Manning's, Fahey Brockman Clothes, and the Hotel Georgian.
