Temporary Ration Card No. 33726, 1962
Order an ImageTemporary ration cards were distributed to residents of Washington State by the Department of Civil Defense to prepare for the possibility of nuclear war or other emergencies. Applications for emergency ration cards were included with electricity bills and returned by residents voluntarily. The State Department of Civil Defense processed the applications and issued cards to the applicants with food and gas ration allotments.
The card pictured here was issued to Olive Jones of 5558 22nd Ave South, Seattle 8, for a household of two. The envelope in which the card was mailed includes the stamp "World's Fair Seattle, 1962."
