Real estate investor Martin Van Buren Stacy (1837-1901) and his wife, Elizabeth A. (Briggs) Stacy (1824-1904), were married on Camano Island in 1870 and moved to Seattle shortly thereafter. In 1885 they built their first mansion, at 308 Marion Street. The mansion where Elizabeth died at the northeast corner of Boren and Madison survives, as the University Club.
