Order an Image
By the end of July 1898, over 40,000 people had poured into Dawson, Yukon Territory. A town had sprung up with restaurants, hotels, saloons, dentists, and other businesses catering to the newcomers. This photo, taken in 1898 by Eric Hegg, shows a street in Dawson, Yukon Territory. Lining the muddy street are wooden sidewalks, several restaurants and saloons, and a dental office. Sign painters must have had plenty of business.
