The keepsake book pictured here was made in March 1853 by Sarah (Ousley or Owsley) Price (1815-1886) prior to her move from Iowa to Oregon. Sarah was born in Indiana, moved to Iowa with her husband and children, and then together left from there for Oregon. The book contains names and hair clippings, some in ornate braids, collected by Sarah Price mostly before leaving Iowa. The family settled in Douglas County, Oregon, in April 1854.

Some of the individuals recorded in the book are: Sarah Price's parents, Elizabeth E (Neal) Owsley (1782-1850) and Zachariah Owsley (1792-1854); her sister Dianna S. Owsley (1819-1851); and her husband Reuben Price (1813-1906).

Sarah and Reuben Price's children are in the book as well: Levi Nelson Price (1835-1905); Amanda Ann (Price) Long (1837-1907); Reuben Henry Price (1838-1922); Isaac John Price (1840-1908); Charles Thomas Price (1846-1908); Samuel E. Price (1848-1921); Benjamin Franklin Price (1850-1920); Absalom Jerome Price (1852-1933); Rebecca M (Price) Young 1852-1890); Martha Ellen Price (1855-1948); and Andrew Alonzo Price (1858-1931). Martha and Andrew, who were both born in Oregon, were added to the book in 1875.

The book was later owned by Sarah's granddaughter, Sue Jean Price (1892-1974), who was born in Seattle to Absalom Price and Margaret Elmina (Lane) Price (1858-1931).
