Argonaut Coffee Shop business card, circa 1930

Order an Image
The Argonaut Coffee Shop opened in 1929 at 1413 Fourth Avenue, and operated at that address until 1934. A few blocks away stood the Argonaut Grill at 523 Pike, operated by the same owners. In 1934, after Prohibition ended, the Argonaut Coffee Shop closed and the same owners soon opened the doors of the new "Argonaut Beer Parlor" at 521 Pike. This small brown card flips up horizontally. The front depicts two owners, Bill Hingeley and Leo Cruise, inside the cutout centers of two life preservers, with the promise: "Life-Savers for Jaded Appetites."
