On Our Way to Paradise
Mount Rainier National Park, in Washington state, opened in 1899. It was the nation's fifth national park and the first to allow cars. The road to the Paradise section of the park was built in 1910. This 1915 sheet music, published five years later, shows several cars passing through the park entrance on their moonlit way up Mount Rainier to Paradise.
The words and music for "On Our Way to Paradise" were written by Frederick Leber, a composer from Auburn, Washington, and published by Echo Music Publishing Company. An ad for an additional song is found on the back cover. Entitled, "I Must Leave You, Mother Dear," by James W. Casey, the accompanying text calls it "the latest soldier-song success."
