An index card slipped into this volume indicates that The Brides' Cookbook was given to prospective brides by the merchants of Seattle when applying for a marriage license. This slim cookbook in particular was gifted to Ms. Fanny Berglund and Mr. Hilding E. Forsman, who were married at her Queen Anne home November 19, 1921.

Included in this cookbook are many advertisements for local businesses, such as these for Seattle Music House and Hollywood Farm, and guidance for the newly married young couple, as well as dozens of recipes including "Quail on Toast" and "Sardine Salad." A letter from the United States Food Administration early in the book is dated July 18, 1918 and indicates "By following the Wheatless and Sugarless recipes contained therein the Housewife is performing a patriotic duty in the conserving of Food so necessary for our Allies and armies abroad." There are many tips on home economics and household management instruction courtesy of Seattle area merchants, as well as advertisements for household items and tips on their use such as, "Use a Leonard Hi-Oven, Takes the 'AKE' Out of Bake."
