Globe Building, Beebe Building, and Hotel Cecil, Seattle, circa 1903
Order an ImageThe three buildings seen here are viewed from Madison Street looking north towards Spring Street. They occupy the entire west side of this block of First Avenue in downtown Seattle. These buildings are listed together as (south to north) the "Globe Building, Beebe Building and Hotel Cecil" on the National Register of Historic Places. The buildings are also part of a city landmark, the First Avenue Groups / Waterfront Center, 1001-1123 1st Ave., 94-96 Spring St., and 1006-1024 Western Ave. The building farthest to the south, or to the left in this image, the Globe Building, or Globe Block, was commissioned by Seattle Developer James W. Clise (1855-1939) in 1900-1901. The Alexis Hotel has occupied the Globe Building since 2003.
