Cyrus Francis Clapp (1851-1914) was a banker and real estate investor who moved to Seattle after his two terms as state senator from Port Townsend ended in 1906. The building seen here was commissioned by Cyrus Clapp in 1901 and built as an apartment hotel by architects Edward C. McManus and James Flood Walker (1868-1924). The building occupied this site well into the 1950s, operating under several names including the "Hotel Ferguson" and the "New Saint James Hotel." The building was located at 1117 Third Avenue, on the west side of Third Avenue between Spring Street and Seneca Street.
