This view of the southeast corner of Second Avenue and University Street in downtown Seattle shows the Brooklyn Building (also called the Brooklyn Block). The building still stands and was designated a city landmark in 1986, though it was altered to accommodate the construction of the Washington Mutual Tower in 1988. The Brooklyn Building's upper floors functioned as a hotel or rooming house from about 1890 until 1950; the lower floor was occupied by small businesses.
