Residential street on Capitol Hill, Seattle, circa 1905
Order an ImageIn the prosperous years of the early 20th century, wealthy residents built large homes on Capitol Hill, a high hill to the east of downtown Seattle. The recently-built Capitol Hill street shown here has homes in Craftsman, Georgian, and other styles. The small street trees will make the neighborhood one of Seattle's shadiest residential areas by the end of the century.
