High productivity was critical in wartime. Throughout World War II, a War Worker of the Week from a local industry was celebrated at Victory Square in downtown Seattle. Located on University Street, between 4th and 5th avenues in front of the Olympic Hotel, Victory Square was the site of rallies, bond drives, and a monument that lists the names of Washington state citizens who lost their lives during the war.
At the end of July 1943, blacksmith Edward Bufmyer received a certificate for his exemplary work at Seattle's Isaacson Iron Works. The certificate is signed by Russell Young, Director, and Bearty Stevens, Program Director, of the Seattle Advertising and Sales Club for the King County War Savings Staff.
Edward Bufmyer's name is misspelled on the certificate as "Bufmeyer."
